Being with our loved ones is a privilege in a country where daily life is overshadowed by somber reports from the war front and the relentless sound of air raid sirens.
- Maarten Wisse steps down as PThU rectorProf. Maarten Wisse is resigning as rector of the PThU with effect from 1 February 2024, he announced today. ‘My leadership style is not a good fit with the style of governance that the PThU is asking for.’ The PThU Supervisory Board and Executive Board chairman Kees Boele regret the rector’s decision, but have no choice but to respect it, while giving thanks for his many initiatives and accomplishments over the years.
- Brunel Nederland B.V. to Manage IT Landscape of PThU in UtrechtAfter a thorough tendering process, Brunel Nederland B.V. has been awarded the contract for managing the IT landscape of the PThU in Utrecht. Today, both parties signed the agreement.
- Dr Erik Olsman appointed professor of Spiritual Care at PThUThe Executive Board of the Protestant Theological University (PThU) has appointed Dr Erik Olsman as professor of Spiritual Care. On Friday 17 November, the Synod of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands approved the decision for his appointment.
- PThU chooses Van Hoogevest ArchitectsThe Executive Board of the Protestant Theological University is pleased to announce that architectural firm Van Hoogevest of Amersfoort will design the plans for the renovation of the PThU's new location at Janskerkhof 12 / Jansdam 14 in Utrecht.

'Mental distress has caused the imagery of hell to return in society', Professor Arnold Huijgen said during the speech with which he accepted his chair in Dogmatics on Friday.
- PThU receives Erasmus funding for student and staff exchange within EuropeThe National Agency Erasmus+ has allocated a budget of 28,293 Euro to the PThU for the funding of outbound student and staff exchange to Erasmus+ programme countries. With this subsidy students and staff are provided the opportunity to study or teach at foreign partner institutions.
- The Calling of the Church in Times of PolarizationFrom 3 till 7 July 2023 the International Reformed Theological Institute (IRTI) is organizing its biennial Summer School in Amsterdam at the Protestant Theological University.
- PThU relocates to Janskerkhof in UtrechtThe Executive Board of the Protestant Theological University (PThU) is pleased to announce the university’s relocation to the Janskerkhof in Utrecht with effect from September 2024. The PThU has acquired premises on Janskerkhof 12/Jansdam 14 for this purpose. In addition, the PThU is negotiating an agreement with the Protestant Congregation in Utrecht (PGU) for the use of the Janskerk and a partnership with the ecumenical Janskerk congregation.
- PThU to launch major research project on relationship between Christian faith and soilThis September, the Protestant Theological University will be launching a five-year research project on the relationship between Christian faith and soil. Researchers involved in the project will engage in theological reflection on the value and meaning of soil, specifically in light of climate and ecological issues. They will do this together with Christian farmers and faith communities and various knowledge institutions and social partners. Part of the project is a large-scale quantitative study in collaboration with the Netherlands Institute for Social Research.
- Nicholas Adams to visit as Senior Research Fellow at PThUAt the invitation of the Moral Compass Project (MCP), Prof Nicholas Adams will be visiting as a Senior Research Fellow at PThU in March, April and June.
- 'Church and slavery' research project launchedThe NWO research project "Church and Slavery in the Dutch Empire: History, Theology and Heritage" has officially started on January 1, 2023. The project was applied for with coordination and financial support of the PThU in collaboration with colleagues at the VU Amsterdam and the University of Curaçao (UoC). One of the senior researchers within the project is Professor Rose Mary Allen of the University of Curaçao, who introduces herself below.
