The Chair of Practical Theology acts in cooperation with the PT-Chair of the University of Zürich, Switserland (prof. Ralph Kunz) and the PT-Chair of the Christian Albrechts University of Kiel, Germany (prof. Uta Pohl-Patalong).

Together we organize an annual meeting for PhD-students (Doktorandinnenkolloquium).

Onderzoek

Kernwoorden van mijn onderzoek zijn: De toekomst van de kerken in Nederland, het (opnieuw) ontstaan van christelijke geloofsgemeenschappen, kerken in rurale en urbane contexten, kerkplanting, de betekenis van kerken voor de samenleving (o.a. sociaal kapitaal), vorming van netwerken van geloofsgemeenschappen, missionaire communicatie, evangelicalisering van de kerken, inclusieve gemeente, kerksluitingsprocessen (en mogelijkheden voor herstart...).

Voor wie als promovendus/a wordt aanvaard, zijn verschillende PThU-faciliteiten beschikbaar. NB Aan de leerstoel Praktische Theologie zijn momenteel 7 buitenpromovendi verbonden. Zij maken o.a. jaarlijks een tweedaagse bijeenkomst mee in Kiel, Zurich of Leiden.

Curriculum Vitae

Henk de Roest was bom in 1959 and studied philosophy of religion and practical theology at Leiden University. He was ordained minister in the Dutch Reformed Church in 1987, serving two parishes just north of Amsterdam. In 1998 he obtained his doctorate with distinction at Leiden University with a thesis called 'Communicative ldentity ¬Habermas' Perspectives of Discourse as a Support for Practical Theology' (publ. Kampen: Kok). In 2000 he completed a

From 1999-2001 he was Lecturer in Practical Ecclesiology at Utrecht University. From Sept¬ember 2001 he held the Chair of Practical Theology at Leiden University and from January 2007 he holds the same Chair at the Protestant Theological University, Leiden.

Henk de Roest is Chairman of the Eastern Europe Committee of the Dutch Theological Faculties and lnstitutions (bi-annual conferences); Advisor of the Dutch Church (Austin Friars) in London; Member International Research Consortium Congregational Studies (annual conferences); Senior-member NOSTER; Member Ecclesiological Investigations Network (EIN); Member Societas Homiletica; Advisor General Synod Protestant Church in the Netherlands (on behalf of the PThU).

Mijn inspiratie

Het christelijk geloof wordt ver weg en dichtbij op talloze manieren gecommuniceerd: in preken, pastorale gesprekken, liturgisch geordende samenkomsten, getuigenissen, diaconale handelingen, etc. Veelal in relatie tot kerkelijk gemeenten en parochies. Daarnaast vindt geloofscommunicatie op velerlei wijze plaats in de cultuur: literatuur, film, muziek, beeldende kunst, evenals in de zgn. nieuwe media.

Spannend vind ik de verkenning van het moment waarin mensen zich daardoor geraakt, geïnspireerd of bezield weten. Het gaat mij om het ogenblik waarop er in het gemoed van mensen iets gebeurt en zij zich aangesproken weten. Soms is stilte daarin een geleider. Vaak zijn het mensen die andere mensen inspireren zodat een verbinding tot stand komen met de God, waarover in de Bijbel wordt verteld. In mijn onderzoek richt ik mij met name op de vraag hoe inspiratie en gemeenschapsvorming, anders gezegd, hoe bezieling en gemeenschapsvernieuwing samenhangen.

Soms gebeurt het zomaar, dat er een nieuwe betekenisvolle (geloofs-)gemeenschap ontstaat. Om deze dynamiek gaat het mij. Waar halen ze het in deze tijd vandaan? denk ik dan.
