Book presentation: Eight Million Exiles

25 February 2025 14:00 - 17:00

The PThU has invited Dr Christopher Hays to present his book Eight Million Exiles on 25 February. In Eight Million Exiles, Dr Hays describes how social scientists, theologians, pastors and local communities worked together to support displaced communities in Colombia.

About the book

This book is an honest account of how collaborative academic research - in the form of Missional Action Research - was used to serve vulnerable communities across Colombia. Dr Chao Romero, a leading Chicana/o studies scholar, said of the book, ‘Eight Million Exiles is essential reading for anyone interested in new models of missional research that prioritise the perspectives and God-given cultural richness of the majority church.’

The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion with PThU PhD students Jeremiah Agbeshie, Kirsten van der Ham and Marten van den Toren-Liefting. The language of the presentation and panel discussion will be English.

About the speaker

Dr Hays is currently president of Scholar Leaders International, an organisation that seeks to encourage and empower Christian theological leaders to engage with the global church by partnering with and strengthening seminaries around the world. He previously taught and conducted research at FUSBC (Fundación Universitario y Seminario Bíblico de Colombia) in Medellín, Colombia. In doing so, he initiated and led the Faith and Displacement project, funded by the Templeton World Charity Foundation. This book, Eight Million Exiles: Missional Action Research and the Crisis of Forced Migration, is a product of this research project.
